Inspiration – What has inspired you lately in your recovery journey to try something new? Or what area of inspiration do you find that regularly keeps you on track in your sobriety?
Sometimes I find myself overwhelmed and exhausted from work, health issues as I’m getting older, etc. and during the times when I am discouraged, not taking care of myself like I should, and feeling like I’m never going to keep a handle on everything, I’m reminded by the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous that it’s important to stay positive about my attitude and actions. On page 86-87, Into Action, it says, “In thinking about our day we may face indecision. We may not be able to determine which course to take. Here we ask God for inspiration, an intuitive thought or a decision. We relax and take it easy. We don’t struggle. We are often surprised how the right answers come after we have tried this for a while. What used to be the hunch or the occasional inspiration gradually becomes a working part of the mind… we find that our thinking will, as time passes, be more and more on the plane of inspiration. We come to rely on it.”
For me, I know that staying consistent with doing my gratitude list can inspire me to focus on positive things in my day. Reading the shares from all of you in this group is always inspirational, and one of my favorite parts of the Big Book is reading the stories because I often find something I relate to.
Lately, my kids have been inspiring me to remember – life can still be fun and exciting even though I’m growing older. They’re away at college now and going through so much change. I also can continue to change and be the best I can be. I need to make the effort to push through and take action to try new things, help others and be grateful for life. Instead of giving in to complacency and what’s comfortable, I will keep looking to my higher power and meditating on how I can be inspired to keep going and try to do better each day.
Thank you for letting me share and thanks for attending this meeting.
