September 13: More About Alcoholism

“Most of us have been unwilling to admit, we were real alcoholics. No person likes to think he is bodily and mentally different from his fellows. Therefore, it is not surprising that their drinking careers have been characterized by countless being attempts to prove we could drink like other people. The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity or death.”

I’m at a women’s retreat where I had to share with the group. To prepare I spent a lot of time reading our literature. I’m so grateful that I have been given this gift of recovery and that I surrendered the drinking problem and to my God.

I am so grateful that I cease fighting and I didn’t have to end up locked up or insane. While I never tried to quit drinking, I sure did try to control it and that pushed me to the brink of insanity.

I have been restored from this hopeless state of mind. I know there’s a solution to any that presents itself today. Simple, but not easy. I know God has a plan for my life and I’m grateful.
